The Minus Faction is an audiobook series about extraordinary abilities and how not to use them.
Xana Jace keeps her head down. It isn't easy when you stand seven feet, eight inches tall. She works the night shift and stays out of trouble, striving only to be reunited with her son. But she's running out of time. The strange disease that compels her body to grow also threatens to choke her heart. When a masked gangster terrorizes the small community that shelters her, Xana is left with a terrible choice, and just 24 hours to discover the truth that everything she believes is a lie.

Rick Wayne's super-heroes-for-grown-ups serial continues with the introduction of Xana Jace, a meek giant of a woman pushed around by powers outside her control. This story started a little slower for me than the first entry in the Minus Faction series, but Xana ended up having more emotional depth than John Regent from the first episode, so that more than made up for it. And of course, when she does act, not only are her feats powerful because of her strength, but also because of how shocking they are given her character up to that point.I recommend this series for anyone who likes a little bit of super-heroism in their thrillers.

Crossfire The Minus Faction Book 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Rick Wayne Matt Thurston Author Rick Wayne Books Reviews
A good read but a very small part of a much longer story. This is designed to keep you reading the books to see where it will go and how all the different story lines will come together.
I can't say enough good things about Rick Wayne's careful, crafted characterization and story development! I've never been most of the places he writes about, nor lived lives even CLOSE to theirs & yet I feel as though their conversations & thoughts run so TRUE & the dialogue is so natural that every installment is a pleasure to read! I can't wait for the next! -D
Can we just subtitle this giant woman punches your face while breaking your heart? read this in one sitting and Rick Wayne continues to make my mind asplode with excellent character development, tension so thick my goosebumps get goosebumps, and action sequences so intense my doctor put me on blood pressure meds. for serious. I can't wait to turn on my friends who gave up superheroes as "kid's stuff" to this redefinition of the genre.
I loved the entire Minus Faction series. It was an incredible ride that I devoured in a weekend. Except for episodes 6 & 7, which I had to wait to be published. They didn't disappoint either. I love Wayne's writing style and vivid worlds.
Just like Episode one - Breakout, Crossfire features singular characters, strong voices, believable moral dilemmas, adventure, brutality, beauty, and action.
And did I mention the kick-ass writing?
I am typically not a fan of serial work - I don't have a strong ability to deal with delayed gratification, and I even prefer to wait to read a series until most of the books are written, but these episodes work as standalones, even though I am anxiously waiting number 3.
My short description? A brilliant blend of the thriller aspects of the Jason Bourne books with season 1 of HEROES, and every comic book you treasured growing up.
A good story includes a character that you can relate to in some way. A great story has characters that make you say "I know this person" or "this is me." This is one of those great stories. I connected with Xana on several fronts, changing her from words on a page to a person in my heart. I felt pain when she felt it. I was cheering her on as she was {insert spoilers here}. Suffice it to say, this book builds Xana with depth, making her a powerful character.
The ending of the book really begins building the entire series. You start seeing several other pieces coming into the picture but there's tons of wiggle room so you can't predict a whole lot of what's to come. An excellent follow-on to Episode One.
The Minus Faction - Episode One Breakout (Volume 1) A compelling series with everything but the kitchen sink being thrown in without veering off course or being muddled in the over-fetishism of cool concepts.I believe The Minus Faction will get the recognition and fan base it truly deserves. It was a unique read for me, a style of writing which I hadn't experienced before. Combining comic book implausibility and average, mortal human complexity, this series is too epic to be made into a mere blockbuster. It's easy to immerse oneself in the story, and then the plot expands without losing it's addictive momentum.
Author Rick Wayne has managed to expertly construct a world where normal to extraordinary human beings come into contact and actual conflict with extraordinary to epic enemies and entities. Looking back, there are so many classic and modern Horror and SF elements beautifully interwoven that I have to wonder if there were supercomputers and a flesh engine of top writers being denied credit. Read it now instead of regretting missing out later.
